During a recent episode of his podcast, “What Happened When”, prominent AEW broadcaster Tony Schiavone shared that it was a hefty dose of nostalgia that drew him back into the wrestling world.

The podcast episode is filled with noteworthy insights, some of which are highlighted below:

Addressing the role of nostalgia in his decision to re-enter the wrestling industry, Tony Schiavone remarked, “Nostalgia indeed played a significant role in bringing me back. It was through this podcast that my return came to fruition, however, it was nostalgia that truly managed to captivate me. You may recall Tony Khan, Jesse [Ventura], and I collaborating in the early ’90s. Accepting my new role with AEW, I realized it to be largely driven by nostalgia, and to help fans relive fond memories of the past. Were it not for the nostalgic factor, I fear I might have been just another announcer. In my view, nostalgia plays a humongous role, which may explain the revival of Saturday Night’s Main Event, complete with its original logo, old ring, and Jesse on commentary. I must say it’s a great move for Jesse.”

Expounding on the consistent usage of Market Square Arena by WWE in the past, Schiavone stated, “The reasons behind this may be better explained by venue management, as they typically handle such decisions. Generally, a company would revisit a venue if the rental costs are favorable and if there’s a solid fan base in the location. Those would be my presumptions regarding the matter.”
