In a recent episode of his “What Happened When” podcast, AEW presenter Tony Schiavone put forth a defense for the degree of aggression displayed in the unsanctioned Lights Out match between Hangman Page and Swerve Strickland at the AEW All Out 2024 event. He argued that it was vital given the nature of the rivalry.
In a humorous tone, Schiavone expressed, “Within the last year, I got to see a home invasion, someone burn someone’s house down. Why not see a couple attempted murders? First attempted murders I’ve ever seen.”
The match saw Strickland and Page diving onto a cinderblock multiple times. Strickland executed a foot stomp that crashed through a table and even used a burnt piece of wood to jab Page in the head.
The match concluded when Page employed a needle to pierce Strickland in the mouth, followed by a knockout chair swing to the head that ensured the victory. Strickland received a check-up by the medical team following the match.
