While there had been rumors in recent weeks that AEW and STARDOM were talks to feature some of the STARDOM talent at Sunday’s AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door II pay-per-view event, that doesn’t appear to be happening.

Speaking on today’s media call to promote Sunday’s event, AEW President Tony Khan addressed why STARDOM talent isn’t booked for the show.

Additionally, the CEO of AEW said he’s “incredibly excited” about the Punk vs. Kojima match.

You can check out some highlights from the media call below:

On STARDOM talent not being booked for the show: “When we lined up the event, I learned that STARDOM had scheduled an event the same day as Forbidden Door… They found it very challenging to have participation in this show, and I completely understand that as a promoter. In the future I would like to work with STARDOM more … I understand there is interest from STARDOM in working together. The key is finding dates.”

On Punk vs. Kojima: “This is a really strong card for Sunday’s event, I’m incredibly excited about it. [Punk vs. Kojima] is a great hard-hitting match and this is the match I want to see.”
