Tony Khan On The ‘Family’ Aspect Of All Elite Wrestling, How AEW Was A Big Gamble
AEW President Tony Khan was the latest guest on the AEW Unrestricted podcast. Khan talked with hosts Tony Schiavone and Aubrey Edwards about how happy he is for everyone that AEW got its contract extended with TNT for four more years.
“I’m so happy for everybody that works here because we have got awesome people from top to bottom with yourselves included. You guys are no exception to that and we’ve got a lot of great people here. The security because everybody’s so happy and that security knowing that we’ll be together for four more years and this is all of a sudden a very successful business.”
Tony continues, saying how much of a gamble it was to go “all in” with All Elite Wrestling.
“To be honest we’ve spent tens of millions of dollars up until this point to get to where we are and it’s a big gamble and I don’t think a lot of people would’ve had the cajones to do it off the bat, but to be fair, my dad, after I put together a business plan that I thought made good sense and we fought tooth and nail through the holidays of 2018, finally he gave me a shot at this and here we are, about a year later and I think it’s officially a success and today’s a huge day, not just for me but for all of us here.”
Using the term “family” can come across contrived or cliched, but something that Khan and the entire AEW really embrace (figuratively and literally):
“I actually do feel that this is like a family. Like I really look forward to spending the time with all you guys and putting shows together and celebrating afterward and going over what we did well and what we could’ve done better. Spending Wednesday nights and popping open a White Claw with you [Aubrey] is something I look forward to.”
