During the recent press briefing for AEW’s premier event WrestleDream 2024, the entrepreneurial president of AEW, Tony Khan, revealed another memorable match scheduled for tonight’s ROH TV episode, expressing his admiration for Ring Of Honor.
It was last week when ROH TV first introduced reruns of historical matches into their programming with the first one being the iconic Samoa Joe vs. Kenta Kobashi bout.
The forthcoming episode is set to highlight the memorable encounter between Bryan Danielson and KENTA from the 2006 Glory By Honor V event.
Khan shared his sentiments, “This week heading into WrestleDream, given the import of the match and everything Bryan Danielson has offered the sport and his excellent streak as AEW World Champion. It was in ROH where I first got to know Bryan, this week I wanted to showcase Bryan in one of the matches that truly made me a fervent ROH enthusiast. So I mentioned the one that aired last week which was Samoa Joe vs. Kenta Kobashi, one of the two DVDs I purchased during my college days that really got me hooked to ROH, the other one, if memory serves was Bryan Danielson vs. KENTA.”
Khan also addressed possible speculation of an impending split in AEW’s roster. Industry reports suggest a tentative roster division could soon take place following the launch of AEW Collision since a few wrestlers were exclusive to that show.
Furthering his thoughts, Khan expounded, “It’s not a bad idea. It’s an interesting concept. There have been multiple versions of roster management that I’ve contemplated and am still developing some intriguing ideas related to the future of AEW media and the AEW roster. It’s too soon to forecast about that looking ahead to the new deal and what’s in the pipeline, but it’s a notion worth considering. I have mulled over it. It’s a plausible idea. Whether it happens or not, I have considered it. It’s an innovative thought and potentially something that could be adopted in the future.”
