AEW President Tony Khan is open to the idea of a women’s Casino Gauntlet match in the future, as revealed during a promotional media call for AEW All Out 2024 pay-per-view event.
Khan’s invention, the Casino Gauntlet match, has proven to be a hit this year, with three successful events held in his hometowns: Jacksonville, Los Angeles, and London’s Wembley Stadium. Looking ahead, Khan shared that he’d like to host a similar match in Chicago for All Out, with the inclusion of a women’s Casino Gauntlet.
In related news, Freddie Prinze Jr., a former WWE creative team writer, voiced his opinions on the Casino Gauntlet match in his “Wrestling with Freddie” podcast. Despite admitting his lack of understanding and initial dislike for the game, he applauded AEW Women’s Division’s growth, mentioning key contributors such as Jamie Hayter, Saraya, Dr. Britt Baker D.M.D, Mercedes Mone, Toni Storm, and Mariah May, among others.
However, his opinion on the Casino Gauntlet match remains negative, believing the absence of a set time limit hampers the ability to develop a storyline or promote the players. Nevertheless, he noted that the recent matches have done better in this respect, with each participant telling a story that was further enhanced by prepared commentary.
