Rumours have been swirling about the potential for AEW to host a meaningful stadium occasion within the United States in the forthcoming year.
Previously, AEW has successfully set similar events into motion, with stadium shows taking place at New York’s Arthur Ashe Stadium and the iconic Wembley Stadium in the United Kingdom. The record for the highest attendance in the company’s history was broken at AEW All In 2023, which was held at Wembley Stadium in London.
Sources from Dallas/Arlington area have made indications to Fightful that AEW is mulling over the idea of facilitating a large-scale event in the region come 2025. The event slated to take place could be akin to “AEW’s biggest event” and possibly be held at a stadium.
However, AEW’s President Tony Khan has dispelled such rumours, stating these plans are not underway at the moment.
While attending the ROH Death Before Dishonor 2024 media scrum, Khan put the record straight that presently, there are no plans to stage a stadium event in the US. However, he warned against discounting AEW from the equation.
Khan declared, “I think it’s speculative to talk about. Nobody ever anticipated us selling over 81,000 tickets at Wembley Stadium. We have repeatedly surprised people, from our very first AEW show where we achieved the fastest sell-out in Las Vegas’s pro-wrestling history, to something we had never accomplished before. I reiterate, never count AEW out in any aspect of the pro wrestling industry. From our first show to the present, we have continually amazed people. What AEW has achieved in five years is truly astounding. As we approach the five-year anniversary of Wednesday Night Dynamite, the growth of AEW is nothing short of amazing. When it comes to AEW, we haven’t attempted a stadium show in America. But I strongly believe that you can never underestimate AEW.”
Next month sees AEW return to London for All In 2024, which will be held at Wembley Stadium.
