Tony Khan confirms AEW Dark will be moving to a studio setting in the future.

During Thursday’s AEW All Out media call, Tony Khan was asked about the report that AEW Dark will eventually move to a studio setting in the form of a residency at Universal Studios in Orlando. Khan confirmed that was the plan, noting that Rafael Morffi, who also worked for TNA/IMPACT Wrestling in the past, helped put it together.

Khan noted the history of the building with both TNA/IMPACT and its use during the WCW days, and said they will utilize the building a bit differently, compares it more to how WCW taped there with Worldwide.

Khan called the studio a great place for veterans and the new talent, and said you won’t see Dynamite and Rampage tape shows there, but it will be used for shows under the Dark banner. Answering another question later in the call, Tony says Dark will mostly be in studio, but you’ll still see some episodes taped in an arena setting.

F4WOnline’s Dave Meltzer first reported AEW Dark will be shifting to a studio taping format for “most weeks” in the future. The Mat Men Podcast’s Andrew Zarian later reported the likely home for AEW Dark is a soundstage at Universal Studios in Orlando, home to TNA/IMPACT Wrestling between 2004 and 2018, and WCW in the late 1990s.
