AEW President Tony Khan shared insights during a recent media call held on Wednesday, chiming in about the upcoming WrestleDream 2024 pay-per-view event and discussing Daniel Garcia’s decision to extend his contract with AEW as well as his incredible progress within the company. The highlights of the conversations during the call are provided below.
As regards signing Daniel Garcia again, Khan stated, “Daniel Garcia is someone I have profound respect for, and it’s completely understandable that he took some time before making such an impactful decision in his personal and professional journey. These life-altering decisions require deep introspection, especially when a significant contract year is around the corner. It’s a beacon that uplifts our wrestlers, our team, and our admirers, when they see one of the highly promising young talents in the realm, someone we’ve invested time in, developing, thriving. Several of our leading lights like Bryan Danielson and FTR see the potential in Daniel Garcia and are keen to offer him guidance. His decision to stay was a morale boost for our company. I believe Garcia, who was an acclaimed independent wrestler before joining AEW, is one of our home-grown luminaries. We were well-acquainted with his potential, which is why we fast-tracked his rise in the organization.”
Speaking about Garcia’s evolution in AEW, Khan pointed out, “Witnessing the growth of Danny over the last three years plus has been an enriching experience for us as fans. Upon his arrival, he quickly found himself in significant roles contesting with our top performers on television. This demonstrated the degree of faith I, and the AEW, had in Danny right off the bat. He managed to maintain his upward trajectory, establishing a rapport with the fans. His efforts, enthusiasm for AEW, and his positivity in the locker room that enhances the company’s spirit and delights the fans are reasons why you’d want to retain someone like Danny in AEW. I am exhilarated about extending Danny’s contract and ensuring his presence in AEW for the foreseeable future. It’s a wonderful announcement for AEW, the team, for Danny himself, and the fans. One thing I look forward to is the affirmation of Danny’s contract.”
