Tony D’Angelo captured the WWE NXT North American Championship, and the echo of its significance is much louder than what was initially perceived, considering it was a triumph that came as a surprise to many.
D’Angelo’s crowning moment came on the October 8th episode of WWE NXT, bringing an end to the longest title reign in history held by ex-champion Oba Femi.
While sharing his journey to the championship on the “Ringer Wrestling Show” podcast, D’Angelo discussed the enormity of his achievement. He confessed,
“This one was emotional because I climbed the mountain that nobody thought I could climb. Emotionally, it meant a little bit more, but having the family with me, having (Channing Lorenzo, Luca Crusifino, and Adriana Rizzo) support me and get me through the tough time of mentally not knowing what to do and they were there for me, so it all worked out and it was a nice hurdle to get over in the career for sure.”
The only accolade missing from D’Angelo’s trophy cabinet is the coveted NXT World Title, which would complete his triple crown in the secondary tier of WWE. Recognizing this, The Don commented,
“I think Trick’s a nice guy so, you know, he just got it back. I don’t wanna take it from him right away, I’ll let him hang on to it for a little bit and then we’ll re-evaluate.”
D’Angelo had a shot at the title against Ilja Dragunov at the NXT Stand & Deliver event in April 2024 but was unsuccessful in capturing the title.
