Toni Storm is confident that history will repeat itself when she faces Io Shirai on this week’s episode of NXT

Storm spoke with Rick Ucchino of SK Wrestling ahead of her NXT Women’s Championship Match with Io Shirai. Storm shared her excitement about the match and vowed to show the world her absolute best when she faces an elite competitor.

“This is to date the biggest opportunity that I’ve had so far, and it’s against arguably the greatest professional wrestler in the world, men or women, Io Shirai,” said Storm. “And luckily for me, I’ve already competed against her several times all over the world, so it’s exciting to go into this match with an entire, it’s a whole different vibe, a whole different dynamic.

“When I first wrestled Io, I was about 19, 20. Now I feel like I’ve grown up, I’ve built myself up a lot, and the world is gonna see the best of Toni Storm this coming Wednesday, so it’s very exciting.”

Heading into Wednesday night’s match, many fans have been looking back to Storm’s victory over Shirai at WWE Evolution in 2018. The Mae Young Classic winner had an emphatic message about these comparisons.

“I beat Io Shirai, and I guess history sometimes repeats, and in this case , [it] most certainly will,” said Storm.

The former NXT UK Women’s Champion also offered her thoughts on the rumor that William Regal will announce the introduction of a NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship.

“If that happens, that’s gonna change the entire division,” said Storm. “We’ve got more women than we ever have so it’s gonna be entertaining as hell, if that’s the case.”

Fans will have to wait and see what happens on Wednesday night; between the NXT Women’s Championship Match and Regal’s looming announcements, it’s sure to be a buzzworthy show.
