Many airborne wrestlers have been hailed over the years as potential successors to Rey Mysterio. Tommy Dreamer believes that one such candidate can be discovered in AEW.
In a recent episode of the “Busted Open Radio” show, Dreamer shared his thoughts on Ricochet’s career, for whom he has broad expectations in AEW. He shared his views saying,
“In my opinion, leaving WWE was a wise choice because despite his tenure there, he never really made it past the mid-card level – not because of lack of talent; perhaps it was due to, say, questionable booking decisions. It’s like the old saying ‘sometimes you need to leave to stand out to get popular,’ so that you can eventually return in a higher capacity much like Cody Rhodes.”
“I’ve always believed that he is the replacement for Rey Mysterio. I don’t believe he was given the chance to showcase that potential in WWE. If he can leave and demonstrate that he’s a draw, then it would be a welcome move for Ricochet. I feel he hit a plateau, a kind of glass ceiling in WWE.”
Ricochet made his debut in AEW at the London 2024 All In event, demonstrating his prowess in the Casino Gauntlet Match. This occurred after he concluded his stint with WWE earlier in the same year.
It was confirmed this week that Ricochet is set to compete against AEW International Champion, Will Ospreay, in the upcoming AEW Grand Slam: Dynamite event.
