Recently, on the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, Tommy Dreamer commented on Bill Goldberg’s retirement match. Dreamer suggested an alternative opponent in GUNTHER rather than the previously considered option.
Bronson Reed was proposed by Dreamer as Goldberg’s final ring competitor. Highlights from the podcast can be seen below:
Dreamer stated his thoughts on Goldberg vs. Bronson Reed: “It might be beneficial for Bronson Reed to help establish a younger talent. I don’t see the need for Goldberg to retire victoriously. Of course, GUNTHER is also a simple choice given earlier conversations. I’m skeptical of it being a headline matchup. We saw the effect of a similar match with Sting in AEW.”
About Goldberg’s last match: “I’m unsure and I don’t have a definitive answer. My top choices would be those two, assuming it is within the WWE domain which I assume it is; they maintain a consistent approach…Pat McAfee has strong connections with WWE. Considering all the Rock stuff, they used that to achieve their agenda at times.”
In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, QT Marshall addressed speculation about his discussions with WWE and elucidated why he chose not to join the Endeavor-led WWE.
Marshall commented on his decision to stay in AEW over WWE, saying he offers a lot to the wrestling world and feels at home in AEW where he has various roles. Despite deliberating over the decision, he was adamant about not leaving AEW to work in an office role at WWE.
He revealed that he had one conversation with a WWE representative who no longer works there. Marshall admits he found the conversation off-putting and decided to cut ties.
Regarding Cody Rhodes moving to WWE, Marshall confessed that he doesn’t think it’s impacted their relationship and respects that everyone makes decisions that suit their interests. Referencing Rhodes, he said, “I remember him telling me after I told him I was going back to AEW, ‘Dude, I’m happy for you. Carry the AEW flag and own it’. I said, ‘OK I will’.”
