Former All Elite Wrestling (AEW) World Champion MJF shares a number of similarities with the departed ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper, according to well-known TNA Wrestling icon, Tommy Dreamer.
During a recent airing of “Busted Open After Dark” podcast, Tommy Dreamer weighed in on MJF’s contribution in the AEW universe and drew parallels with the storied career of the late Roddy Piper. His exact words were:
“He is notorious for disparaging the audience, excessively promoting himself and displaying brazen egotism. Despite this, the AEW crowd has a deep affinity for him, and I share the sentiment. He brings about reminiscences of the era when Roddy Piper was at the pinnacle of his career. There are instances when MJF evokes the same nostalgic sentiments from the golden days of wrestling.”
In the latest AEW Dynamite episode, MJF found himself faced with a challenge from RUSH. While reflecting on the show during the podcast, Dreamer expressed approval of the verbal exchange between the two wrestlers. He commented:
“Merely disparaging an opponent doesn’t really make an impact. However, he went the extra mile to ensure that fans would retain their memory of Rush and provided some history about Rush’s wrestling journey.”
MJF made his triumphant return following an extended unofficial hiatus at the AEW Double or Nothing 2024 event where he surprised Adam Cole and revealed he was renewing his contract with AEW.
