Professional wrestler Tommy Dreamer has recently expressed his astonishment at the ‘babyface’ treatment that Swerve Strickland is receiving from AEW supporters, calling the situation “odd.” Over the past few weeks, Strickland has adopted the persona of a ‘heel,’ particularly leading up to his upcoming match with Bryan Danielson at the big event, All In: London.
Dreamer’s insights were shared in a recent edition of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast. He discussed Strickland’s intriguing ‘heel’ character, which somehow still succeeds in gaining audience support.
Take a look at some of the key points from the podcast here:
Concerning the positive reception of Strickland, Dreamer remarked: “It’s certainly peculiar. Swerve’s actions on the show ‘Dynamite’ were completely ‘heel,’ even to the point where he surprise-attacked Bryan Danielson from the back. Yet, the audience keeps echoing ‘Who’s house?’”
Commenting on how Strickland elicits such a response, Dreamer said: “Swerve has a straightforward approach. His promo messages are clear to the point. He sure does get inside your mind, and in normal circumstances, you would boo him. But he’s an extraordinary athlete. I think that’s why they applaud him and they enjoy either participating in or just observing the dance moves. They also like to shout, ‘Who’s house?’”
