This past December, Tito Ortiz defeated Alberto El Patron via submission with a rear-naked choke at the Combate Americas: Tito vs. Alberto MMA event. It’s one of several fights Tito has planned for the promotion, but that could be up in the air thanks to a recent investigation into the bout. As of today, the official results for the match in Texas have been changed from an Ortiz victory to a “No Decision” pending further investigation.
The change indicates that there was something from the Ortiz camp that was amiss regarding the bout. It was the main event of Combate Americas’ first PPV, and the company reported that buys did not achieve their expected goals, especially when compared to TV ratings. El Patron has ties to the WWE, performing as Alberto Del Rio throughout the 2010s before leaving for other promotions.
Ortiz was recently spotted at the WWE Performance Center, but there’s no concrete evidence that he’s making the jump to wrestling anytime soon. As for his MMA career, it remains to be seen what this investigation will turn up. The “No Decision” ruling is reversible if nothing is found, but there’s usually some sparks of fire wherever there’s smoke.
