During a recent segment on the “AEW Unrestricted” podcast, Thunder Rosa, an ex-AEW Women’s World Champion had some thoughts about the current state of the AEW women’s division.
Highlights from the podcast are as follows:
Discussing the dynamics of the AEW women’s division, Rosa stated, “Everyone has their unique style, personality, and flavor. There is a variety within the division. However, I believe we need stronger babyfaces to balance our strong heel personalities. What makes Willow Nightingale so well-liked is not just her skill but her authenticity as a babyface. She has managed to elevate the game.”
On the topic of her professional relationship with Toni Storm, Rosa recounted, “Working with Toni Storm, was fun and entertaining because it pushed me to refine my babyface persona. This was challenging given my personal nature. However, it’s not about who I am – Melissa, but who Thunder Rosa needs to portray in the ring to maintain the narrative.“
She further emphasized the need for the division to have stronger characters, stating, “Every time we step into the ring or cut a promo, the challenge is evident. The roster we have are great performers, but there needs to be more depth in their babyface and heel personas. We need to grasp the fundamental ethos of professional wrestling – if you are a heel, fully embrace it. If you are a babyface, you don’t need to show off. Carry the audience on your journey and let them empathize with your struggle.”
Concurrently, during a recent segment on the “Cruising with Kayfabe” podcast, Zak Knight expressed ambitions for his role in AEW, aspiring to become a leading figure in the promotion and a well-known name among fans.
Knight, who became part of AEW in late 2023 through ROH and made his debut in April, voiced, “Everyone in the locker room aspires to be the world champion and that mindset is necessary. However, my goal for the next two to three years is not exclusively centered on the championship belt. Admittedly, I will always aim to be a champion. However, I aspire to be recognized as a core member of AEW. A person whose weekly appearances are eagerly anticipated by audiences, knowing they will be entertained. Irrespective of whether I am the champion, whether I am winning or losing, or whether I am in a four-minute or a fourteen-minute match, my intention is to always provide entertainment as Zak Knight. That is the goal I am working towards.”
