In an unexpected twist, Jon Moxley secured his place as the AEW World Champion during the AEW Dynasty 2025 marquee event. However, his win did not come without assistance, primarily from the surprise reappearance of The Young Bucks.
During an intense battle with competitor Swerve Strickland, Moxley was often at the edge of defeat. Had there been a duly assigned referee, he might have lost the match to Strickland during multiple instances.
An intriguing episode unfolded when “Hangman” Adam Page was seen gearing up for a Buckshot Lariat. Who he was intending to target, Moxley or Strickland, remained a mystery, stirring up intrigue amongst the audience. It also raised questions about his loyalty, given that he had previously stated he would prevent Strickland from ever winning the title.
The remainder of The Death Riders soon launched an onslaught, counteracted promptly by The Opps. Despite equalizing the playing field, Strickland fell short of leverage during the chaotic scene. A twist came when the lights dimmed, only to reveal Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson detaining Strickland and delivering a bold EVP Trigger upon light restoration.
This move was sufficient to bring Strickland to his knees, allowing Moxley to snatch the AEW World Championship by pinfall. Both Moxley and The Young Bucks exited the scene swiftly after.
The justification behind The Young Bucks’ action remains unclear—whether due to an alliance with The Death Riders or some inexplicable grudge against Swerve still needs answering. This intriguing development will be a leading highlight in the ensuing edition of AEW Dynamite this Wednesday!
