On the journey of Christian Cage’s career: “He’s had a very unique journey with some interruptions. He was the underachiever. He was, ‘Oh yeah, that’s Edge’s partner.’ You know what I mean? He had a hard time building his own identity. I think probably going to TNA helped him as much as anything because he got the chance to be in the spotlight and work in main event slots on television to see how he would deliver, and he delivered well.”

On signing Christian to WWE: “It was early. It wasn’t too long after I signed Adam. I knew of him because here’s the thing: Looking at tapes of Adam, it generally included Christian … He was on as much tape as I watching of Edge, Adam, as Adam was … Jay’s [Christian’s real given name] biggest issue is that everybody knows, to some degree, Vince McMahon is a body guy … I think we can all agree, without being naughty, that Christian’s body is not his forte. He’s athletic, he’s lean. I like it, because it’s a different look than the typical vision of a pro wrestler these days.”

Christian will defend the TNT Title against Adam Copeland later tonight in the main event of AEW Dynamite.

Christian Cage, the reigning TNT Champion in All Elite Wrestling (AEW), has had a unique journey in his professional wrestling career. AEW broadcaster Jim Ross recently discussed Cage’s career on his podcast, “Grilling JR,” shedding light on how the 50-year-old wrestler forged his own identity and the challenges he faced along the way.

Ross acknowledged that Cage initially struggled to establish his own identity in the wrestling world. As the longtime tag team partner of Edge, Cage was often overshadowed and referred to as “Edge’s partner.” However, Ross believes that Cage’s time in Total Nonstop Action (TNA) Wrestling, now known as Impact Wrestling, played a crucial role in helping him break free from that label.

During his tenure in TNA, Cage had the opportunity to be in the spotlight and work in main event slots on television. This allowed him to showcase his skills and prove himself as a top performer. Ross commended Cage for delivering impressive performances during this time, which ultimately helped him build his own identity outside of being Edge’s partner.

Ross also discussed the process of signing Christian Cage to WWE during his time as a talent scout for the company. He revealed that he was already familiar with Cage because whenever he watched tapes of Edge, Cage was often featured alongside him. Ross acknowledged that one of Cage’s challenges was his physical appearance, as Vince McMahon, the chairman of WWE, tends to favor wrestlers with a more muscular physique.

Despite this challenge, Ross expressed his appreciation for Cage’s athletic abilities and lean physique, which he believed offered a refreshing and different look compared to the typical vision of a pro wrestler in today’s industry. This ultimately led to Cage being signed by WWE.

In the present day, Christian Cage is the reigning TNT Champion in AEW. He will defend his title against Adam Copeland, who is better known as Edge, in the main event of AEW Dynamite. This match promises to be a highly anticipated showdown between two wrestling legends.
