The Undertaker says the current roster is doing such a good job business-wise these days that it makes it hard for him to give any advice right now.
You can check out some highlights from the latest edition of his “Six Feet Under” podcast below:
On finding it hard to give advice to people backstage: “It’s really tough being backstage because there’s that part of me that wants to kind of pass it on to the guys that are there now and then, there’s the part of me that’s like ‘You should be out there doing it. You could do it better. Yeah and I mean, physically I can’t anymore, but those are all those little battles that I play in my head. It’s hard to give advice anymore. Just for the fact that these guys are freaking killing it, business-wise. You guys are making more money than we ever made, what can I tell you?”
On the current state of wrestling: “I mean, I wish they would storytell more and do a little less Cirque du Soleil, but I mean, evidently they tolerate it. I always think things could be better and there’s a place for some of the things that we used to do. They still have a valuable place in this product, but how do you tell somebody that’s absolutely freaking killing it? ‘Yeah, man, you go do you. You might want to learn how to tell a story because your career is not going to last very long during the stuff that you’re doing.’”
The Undertaker, one of the most iconic figures in professional wrestling history, recently shared his thoughts on the current state of the industry. In a recent episode of his podcast, “Six Feet Under,” he discussed how the current roster is excelling in terms of business and why it makes it difficult for him to offer advice.
The Undertaker admitted that being backstage during wrestling events is a challenging experience for him. On one hand, he wants to pass on his knowledge and wisdom to the current generation of wrestlers. On the other hand, he feels a sense of longing to be out there performing himself. He acknowledges that physically, he can no longer compete at the same level as before, but it doesn’t stop him from having internal battles about what he could do better.
One of the main reasons why The Undertaker finds it hard to give advice is because the current roster is doing exceptionally well in terms of business. He acknowledges that today’s wrestlers are making more money than ever before, which makes it difficult for him to provide guidance. He recognizes their success and feels that they are “freaking killing it” in terms of their performance and financial gains.
However, The Undertaker does have some reservations about the current state of wrestling. He expressed a desire for more storytelling and less emphasis on acrobatics and spectacle. While he acknowledges that the audience seems to enjoy the more circus-like performances, he believes there is still value in traditional storytelling. He believes that some of the techniques and approaches used in the past still have a place in today’s product.
The Undertaker understands that the current generation of wrestlers is achieving great success with their high-flying and acrobatic moves. However, he also believes that these performers should learn how to tell a story in order to have a long and successful career. He suggests that relying solely on flashy moves may not sustain their careers in the long run.
In conclusion, The Undertaker recognizes the exceptional performance of the current roster in terms of business and financial success. While he finds it challenging to offer advice, he still believes that there is room for improvement in terms of storytelling in professional wrestling. He encourages wrestlers to learn the art of storytelling alongside their impressive physical abilities to ensure a long and prosperous career.
