On a recent episode of his podcast “Six Feet Under,” legendary wrestler The Undertaker recounted an incident where he lost his temper and fought back on Giant Gonzalez after consistently being hit in the neck at WrestleMania IX.
In the WWE Hall of Famer’s own words:
“He broke me. In the 90’s, a time of utmost struggle for me. In 93, I had little to no influence. Despite the grueling schedule, we gave it our all. The first performance was in Indianapolis, scheduled for noon, and then we were off to Cincinnati. After a grueling night, I urged George [Giant Gonzalez] repeatedly to hit me in the shoulder blades, no matter how hard. Unfortunately, I continued to receive blows across the back of my neck. Losing my patience eventually, I retaliated to his surprise. It led to a heated brawl, with George The Animal Steele, an agent, trying to intervene. The match ended in a countout and I waited for George, ready to defend myself. It was not a proud moment for me.”
In 2023, WWE held the Backlash pay-per-view event in Puerto Rico which featured Grammy-winning artist Bad Bunny facing Damian Priest in a Street Fight. The event marked one of the most enthusiastic WWE crowds in recent memory.
Priest, while on the “Rob Brown Show,” considered his defeat to Bunny at the Puerto Rican event as a cultural milestone rather than a personal loss. He shared,
“The impact of that match went beyond the outcome. It set a precedent for WWE to host events internationally with great success. The records we broke and the response from the audience made it evident that we could replicate this success everywhere. Bad Bunny and I fought to host Backlash in Puerto Rico and to include other Latino wrestlers. The success here paved the way for events like Rhea Ripley’s headline show in Perth and upcoming ones in Berlin, Scotland and more. We are expanding as a company, growing our fanbase, and becoming more inclusive in our representation.”
