While light tubes might play a role in the world of professional wrestling, WWE Hall of Famer, The Undertaker, firmly asserts that he would never resort to using them during a match.
In a recent episode of his podcast, “Six Feet Under”, The Undertaker shared his views on the incorporation of light tubes in wrestling bouts. His comments were candid:
“My [social media] feed often features video clips of people getting hit with, say, eight fluorescent bulbs, all for a crowd of just 10 to 15 spectators who witness these excessive theatrics. Frankly, I can’t decipher the storyline. To me, the audience size doesn’t justify such an outrageous gimmick. If I’m under WWE’s banner, they would ensure I am sufficiently compensated. The promoters’, however, probably contend with, ‘If somebody catches a glimpse of this spectacle.’”
Light tubes have become a staple in death match wrestling and are also utilized by promotions that focus on this specific type of match. They have also made appearances in companies like AEW.
This year saw Kenny Omega renounce death matches, a decision partly influenced by the anticlimactic ending to his 2021 contest with Jon Moxley.
Despite Omega’s exit from the gruesome format, AEW still hosts ultraviolent matches, as evidenced by the bloody face-off between Swerve Strickland and Hangman Page at AEW All Out 2024.
