In a recent episode of “Six Feet Under” podcast, the wrestling world’s icon and WWE Hall of Famer, The Undertaker, opened up about his relationship with Vince McMahon, the evolution of his American Badass persona, and more.
Here are some major takeaways from the podcast:
Discussing his professional relationship with Vince McMahon, The Undertaker spoke about the need to establish trust to influence creative decisions: “Earlier, you had to win Vince’s confidence to get the freedom to veto an idea, saying something like, ‘I don’t think this is for me.’ If Vince decided that’s what needs to be done, you had to follow through. However, once Vince understood that you see the bigger picture, he tended to value your ideas more.”
Talking about his American Badass character, the veteran shared that the shift was entirely his idea: “Feeling that I was becoming repetitive, and wanting to maintain authenticity to my character, I made the transition from the original Undertaker. As compelling as the character was, it was restricting. The Attitude Era brought with it fiery promos from the likes of Stone Cold and The Rock, and the original Undertaker persona did not fit in anymore. So, I decided to blend in some elements of my personal life, Mark Callaway, with the professional persona, freeing me up to experiment with edgier content.”
