In a recent discussion on “Sneaker History”, The Young Bucks’ stars, Matthew Jackson and Nicholas Jackson, shed light on their partnership with Reebok to design the Young Bucks Pumps.
To hear more in-depth details from the conversation, read below:
Nicholas revealed, “It took nearly two years to accomplish this goal. After our initial signature shoe with Diadora was a hit, they wanted to collaborate with us. They approached us almost immediately.”
Matthew echoed, “Instantly.”
Nicholas further clarified, “Their interest piqued, but we didn’t comprehend the length of the process. Now, two years on, we finally launched the product. Once our first shoe took off, their desire to collaborate with us was almost unsettling. Matt recollected our fond memories of wearing Pumps in the past, and hence the collaboration came full circle. Reaching this milestone was a dream for us. Reebok holds a much greater reputation than our previous collaborator. We would have never imagined that we’d own our signature piece.”
Matthew shared, “In the beginning, we were asked about our aesthetic preferences. We conveyed multiple colorways and ideas to them and they were receptive to all our proposals. We also shared images of our old gear to help them visualize the Young Bucks’ aesthetic. The design was finalized almost without delay. Just days later, they pitched their potential design to us which was 90% in line with our vision. However, we began to question the progress after a year of no communication. They reassured us that the delay was normal. Seeing an actual pair of shoes for the first time triggered an adrenaline rush. We had collaborated with Diadora, but this is a sneaker that resonates with our wrestling career. Seeing our logo on it after 20 years is an accomplishment, we may not be able to top.”
