Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s animated sequel, “Moana 2,” was a huge hit. Launched in the U.S. on November 27, 2024, the film grossed over a billion dollars at the box office.

The direction of the film was in the skilled hands of David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller. Producing the film were Christina Chen and Yvett Merino. It showcased the voice talents of Auli’i Cravalho, reprising her role as Moana, and Dwayne Johnson as Maui. Additionally, original cast members Rachel House, Temuera Morrison, and Nicole Scherzinger returned to their roles.

According to Variety, in just a span of five days after its release on Disney+, “Moana 2” became the third-biggest animated release on the streaming service, attracting a whopping 27.3 million views.

This constitutes Disney Animation Studios’ most significant streaming debut since the release of “Encanto.” The first “Moana” film, released in 2016, has been streamed for an impressive 1.4 billion hours.

The Rock is not resting on his laurels, as he is presently involved in the production of a live-action adaptation of “Moana,” which is set to hit the theaters in July 2026.
