Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is set to bring to life the story of dual UFC Heavyweight Champion Mark Kerr in the biopic, “The Smashing Machine”. Benny Safdie, the creative mind behind “Uncut Gems”, will take the reins of this project as both writer and director. A24, the film studio known for its production of “The Iron Claw”, a film about the Von Erich family, will finance this biopic.
The moniker “The Smashing Machine” was bestowed upon Kerr owing to his unique combat style in the Octagon. Johnson will be embodying Kerr’s character, while Emily Blunt will play the role of Kerr’s wife, Dawn Staples. The production is scheduled to wrap up by August 1, 2024.
During the filming of “The Smashing Machine”, Johnson sustained an injury to his elbow, as evident from his recent Instagram post.
