In the AEW WrestleDream 2024’s main event, Bryan Danielson surrendered the AEW World Heavyweight Championship to Jon Moxley at the Tacoma Dome. The condition of the match dictated Danielson’s retirement from full-time wrestling in case of defeat.

Post the fight, the Blackpool Combat Club staged an attack on Danielson, which led to his temporary exit from the television scene. Danielson is projected to be undergoing a neck surgery following the assault.

The actual vision for the main event of WrestleDream, however, was quite contrary to the actual outcome.

It was widely speculated, although not officially verified, that Darby Allin was to overcome Danielson and claim the AEW World Championship prior to the alteration in plans.

In the Dynamite episode aired on 25th September, Allin lost to Moxley, and thus the latter assumed Allin’s secured AEW World Championship opportunity for WrestleDream 2024.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter revealed that “the Moxley betrayal to Danielson post his title defense over Jack Perry at All Out in Chicago led to a significant shift in the storyline. The motive was to generate heightened interest in the promotion by pouring maximum heat on Moxley and the BCC.”

As we reported earlier on eWn, Danielson’s wish was to conclude his full-time wrestling career through a loss to Moxley.
