“As late as last week, Reigns vs. Rock was not out of play. Rock wanted it and even said so in media interviews. We were told he was heavily pushing for it. But at that point, as late as after the Rumble, the plan was for Reigns vs. Rhodes and to do Reigns vs. Rock at some point in the future. Saudi Arabia was talked about for that match from a company standpoint with the idea of doing the match they had spent a year plus building toward, with the idea that perhaps having Reigns vs. Rock in Saudi Arabia would get the government to kick in more money both for the company and Rock. It also could be at next year’s Mania, but that would make many years in a row where that much was talked about for “next year’s Mania,” Meltzer wrote.
The WWE Universe is buzzing with excitement as the road to WrestleMania 40 unfolds. One of the most anticipated matches for the event is the potential clash between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title. However, there has been speculation about the involvement of another legendary wrestler, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, in this epic showdown.
Cody Rhodes emerged victorious in this year’s 30-Man Royal Rumble match, earning him the right to challenge Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40. Rhodes wasted no time in expressing his desire to face Reigns for the prestigious title. The anticipation for this match has reached a fever pitch among fans, who are eager to witness these two powerhouses collide in the squared circle.
But amidst all the excitement, rumors have been circulating about the possible return of The Rock to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40. The Rock, a Hollywood megastar and former WWE Champion, has shown interest in this idea. His involvement in the event would undoubtedly add an extra layer of star power and nostalgia to an already stacked card.
According to respected wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer, the match between Reigns and The Rock is still a possibility. Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that as late as last week, Reigns vs. Rock was not ruled out. The Rock himself has expressed his desire for the match in media interviews, and it is believed that he has been pushing for it behind the scenes as well.
However, the current plan is for Roman Reigns to defend his title against Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40. The idea of Reigns vs. The Rock is being considered for a future event, potentially in Saudi Arabia. This strategic move would not only capitalize on the long-term build-up between the two wrestlers but also attract additional financial support from the Saudi Arabian government.
It is worth noting that discussions about Roman Reigns vs. The Rock at WrestleMania have been ongoing for several years. While it remains uncertain whether the match will finally take place at next year’s event, the constant speculation has kept fans eagerly awaiting this dream encounter.
