Rob Van Dam is confident that a match featuring his ECW tag-team partner and rival Sabu could still happen, despite Sabu being in his late 50s.
On a recent edition of his “1 Of A Kind” podcast, Rob Van Dam was asked about Sabu and the possibility of one more match from the ECW original. He said,
“Absolutely, it can happen. [I’ve] definitely seen wrestlers in worse conditions than Sabu pull it off, a lot of guys have done their whole careers in worse condition than Sabu is with less mobility.”
On his show, RVD added that at one point, the pair talked about a joint retirement tour, but that might not be the case now. He said,
“It was an idea that seemed like it might be feasible 10 years ago, maybe longer. I just figured he would wrestle himself into the ground, and since I’m a little bit younger, maybe it would just work out that way. I don’t see it being my retirement match if I am able to be a part of it, but, of course, I would be honored and thrilled if I am his opponent.”
Sabu recently declared that he hopes to wrestle his final match at some point this year. At this time, a date and opponent for this match has yet to be announced.
