Seasoned WWE superstar The Miz doesn’t shy away from fan vitriol, though the ex-World Champion revealed a single downside to his heel persona.
In most of his wrestling tenure, The Miz operated as a heel, clinching a significant chunk of his championship victories amid intense antagonism from fans.
Speaking on a new installment of Cody Rhodes’ “What Do You Wanna Talk About?” podcast, The Miz delved into his villainous role and its single challenge.
“I revel in inciting boos. What’s bewildering is that there are people who detest it. The only drawback is probably my inability to sell T-shirts. As a heel, my merchandise sales suffer, and that can be a key factor during contract negotiations. A large indicator of success is merchandise sales. I mean, it’s part of the job to make fans loathe me, right? So much so, they won’t buy my merchandise. But then again, you wish for them to despise you yet simultaneously buy your T-shirts. Frankly, I enjoy being the bad guy.”
Currently, The Miz is on Monday Night RAW in a babyface role; however, he’s upfront that the shift is predominantly influenced by his tag team peer. He explained,
“The only cause for my current babyface character is subtle manipulation by R-Truth. Whoever R-Truth is around instantly becomes the ultimate babyface because he’s charismatic, funny, entertaining, and simply a pleasure to be around.”
In the recent WWE RAW episode, a defeat to A-Town Down Under left The Miz and Truth in a sour state, with Miz’s disheartened expression towards Truth hinting that his time as a face might be short-lived.
