The wrongful death lawsuit filed by Jerry Lawler against Hardeman County, Tennessee concerning the tragic death of his son Brian has been officially rejected.

Widely prevalent in the eWn recent updates, Jerry Lawler, an inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame, had filed a lawsuit against the county in 2019 after the unfortunate demise of his son, Brian. Brian had not only made a name for himself in WWE as Brian Christopher and Grandmaster Sexay, but also suffered a bitter end while being imprisoned post a DUI arrest in July 2018. The lawsuit had faced countless delays with a jury trial set for March 31, 2025. However, it was on September 4th that The U.S. District Court, Western District of Tennessee (Jackson), put an end to it by dismissing the case.

The court’s verdict was documented in a filing stating,

“Plaintiff had failed to present evidence from which a jury could find that the individual officers knew that the Decedent possessed a ‘strong likelihood’ of suicide, and disregarded that knowledge; therefore, Plaintiff could not show that the individual defendants were subjectively aware of such a risk.”

Interestingly, the initial court decision to permit some sections of the lawsuit was backed by a 2021 precedent. Nevertheless, since Brian Lawler died in 2018, it was ruled that an earlier precedent ought to have been applied, with this precedent favoring the defendants. Consequently, the court chose to dismiss the lawsuit in its entirety.
