Ronda Rousey’s original run with WWE received widespread acclaim. She brought some much-needed mainstream appeal and legitimacy to the ripening women’s division at the time, supplementing the likes of Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks, Bayley, Asuka, and more.
However, her second run has been largely panned and has failed resonate with fans, in part due to the comments she made about the wrestling business during her hiatus, as well as the company and Rousey herself just being in vastly different places compared to 2018-19.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that her current run in WWE is likely to end soon, before reiterating that her contract coming up is why her split with Shayna Baszler was rushed. He wrote,
“It’s not confirmed whether this is Rousey’s last match in WWE for the time being, but her departure is coming relatively soon since they had to rush the turn angle.”
While her recent run may not have really clicked, Rousey’s contributions to women’s wrestling over the past five years cannot be discounted.
