Tony Khan, the renowned personality behind AEW, recently opened up about AEW’s triumph in Mexico last month and gave a preview of the forthcoming AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2025 pay-per-view event.

In an exclusive conversation with Yahoo! Uncrowned, Khan unveiled that the earnings from Forbidden Door are already among the highest ever for AEW.

Below are some salient points from this interview:

Discussing AEW Grand Slam: Mexico, Khan stated, “The inaugural AEW show at Arena Mexico marked a colossal success. It signifies a fruitful partnership between AEW and CMLL, which run Arena Mexico. Their warm invitation to AEW to grace the Arena Mexico and to collaborate further was highly appreciated. The outstanding show was a testimony to the passion of wrestling enthusiasts worldwide, especially the live audience in Mexico. This event bolstered AEW viewership to the highest in recent times. The AEW wrestlers were warmly welcomed by CMLL fans. Clearly, the door is wide open for AEW to make a comeback to Mexico. All of us are eager to see AEW return to Arena Mexico.”

Speaking about AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2025 in London, Khan shared, “Every year, Forbidden Door is broadcasted from a legendary wrestling venue in a globally renowned wrestling city, and this year will be the grandest. It’s one of the largest gates in AEW’s history, and it’s poised to be an epic event in collaboration with our partners at New Japan Pro Wrestling.”

When asked whether there’s scope for a third AEW show, Khan said, “That’s a wonderful question. In 2025, we are currently focusing on our two main AEW shows, which are Wednesday Night Dynamite and Saturday Night Collision. However, the Collision is slated to shift to Thursday next week in Garland. We’ve had some wonderful experiences with these Thursday night Collisions. There’s always scope to grow the AEW programming calendar. So far, Dynamite and Collision have been working smoothly, but as we’re undergoing a prosperous year, new possibilities are under consideration. As AEW media rights continue to expand and develop new platforms for AEW, there’s certainly a chance to grow further. However, in 2025, we’re highly content with Wednesday Night Dynamite and Saturday Night Collision as the main TV shows.”
