Will Ospreay, the AEW International Champion, utilized Twitter to share the news of his grandmother’s passing, which occurred on Tuesday, shortly after his arrival in New York.
Ospreay, in a heartfelt video, committed his participation in tonight’s AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door 2024 pay-per-view event to the memory of his departed grandmother.
Highlights from the touching video are presented below:
Regarding the news he got this week: “This week has really been overwhelming. I arrived in the US on Tuesday and learnt of my grandma’s death on the same day. This is my first experience with losing a family member. It wasn’t an easy week for me, filled with emotions and pain. On a positive note, my grandma is now at peace after enduring much suffering, but the emptiness is undeniable. The immense support I have received from the backstage crew and people reaching out to me on phone cannot be overstated. I am grateful.”
His thoughts on tonight’s event: “It occurred to me that a 14-match card is scheduled for tonight, and the excitement at the arena would be immense. I reckon it won’t be easy for you all, and I have a request. If you are watching the video or planning to attend tonight’s show, remain energetic as I am going to need it. This week has been one of the most challenging of my life. I suppressed the pain which is now surfacing. The world title match is right in front of me, in the UBS Arena. It’s my first attempt.”
Talking about AEW: “I am deeply thankful to AEW and everybody for the spectacular support I’ve received. It’s overwhelming to think that I’ll be in the main event with a million-dollar gate, my first time. It signifies that the years of hard work are finally paying off. Therefore, whether you’re present there or watching back home, send me all your positive energy. This is for my family and my beloved grandma. I love you all and hope not to disappoint you. Stay tuned, I intend to become the first-ever AEW International and World Champion. Thank you all so dearly, god bless you. Take good care.”
Our heartfelt condolences go out to Will Ospreay and his family during this difficult time.
Please share your love and positive vibes 💚
