WWE legend, The Godfather, recently featured in an episode of the “Insight with Chris Van Vliet” podcast, where he shared some interesting facts about his character development process in WWE. Notably, he attributed a good portion of his on-screen persona advice to his own spouse.
In the podcast, he said, “My wife always guided me when it came to the portrayal of my WWE character. She taught me that authenticity is key and instead of pretending to be something you’re not, just be true to yourself. For me, it was to be the high-ass crazy, fun-loving person that I was at that point in my life.”
Despite advice from his colleague The Undertaker that he should adopt a more serious character, The Godfather stuck with his own style. He remarked, “I chose to go down my own path, because I was enjoying myself and making a living out of it. Besides, I had my businesses back home, so I was comfortable with going out as The Godfather.”
In the early stages of its creation, his character caught the attention of WWE owner, Vince McMahon. Recollecting that incident, The Godfather quoted McMahon’s response, “When we attended TV, Vince told me ‘Charles, whatever you’re doing, I’ve heard it could have potential.”
