In the latest edition of his podcast, “Six Feet Under”, The Godfather, a renowned figure in pro wrestling, shared his insight on several topics, including the reasons why his persona wouldn’t make it in today’s professional wrestling landscape.
The Godfather, who currently holds a five-year Legends contract with WWE, offered up some interesting points during his podcast, which are detailed below:
Discussing why ‘The Godfather’ persona would fail to resonate today, he stated, “It’s challenging because The Godfather character is a pimp. Integrating a pimp into the world today, let alone within pro wrestling, is a formidable task. Moreover, referring to females as h*es would be totally unacceptable in our current era.”
Commenting on fellow wrestler Val Venis, he said, “The antics we used to pull back then, wouldn’t stand a chance today. I always put forward that Val Venis was more audacious than I was, based on the things he used to say.”
Reflecting on the uniqueness of his time in the WWE, he noted, “The interesting part is, I had creative freedom. There was no script for me to follow. Of course, unless it pertained to a specific town or event. I was instructed to ‘just go out there, find out who I am wrestling against, crack a joke about them, and do my thing.’ My focus was primarily on putting on a show for the audience.”
