MJF desperately fought back for a nearfall leading to Joe locking in his submission hold tightly.

MJF scrambled as he looked for a way to escape with Cole looking on helplessly.

Referee Bryce Remsberg checked MJF’s arm, lifting it twice, and the arm dropped a third time onto the leg of Joe. Confused for a split second, Remsberg called for the bell, awarding Joe the title victory.

Joe celebrated with the AEW World Title before heading to the back while a devastated MJF sat in the middle of the ring with Cole trying his best to console him.

MJF finally got to his feet, only for The Devil’s masked henchmen to show up at ringside.

Cole looked ready to fight alongside MJF as the men stormed the ring. With both wrestlers at the mercy of the villainous faction, Cole tried to stop them from attacking his best friend, while MJF showed no hesitation to sacrifice himself for Cole until the lights cut out …. when they came back on, Cole sat in the middle with the masked men standing behind him like a cult.

The masked men quickly unveiled themselves – Roderick Strong, The Kingdom, and Wardlow. The four men attacked MJF as Wardlow nailed him with a massive powerbomb.

Cole pulled out The Devil’s mask and laid it on the chest of the fallen MJF, standing as tall as he could alongside his crew as the final AEW pay-per-view event of 2023 came to a close.
