News coming out of the eWn front reveals that Britt Baker, a prominent wrestler, was recently slapped with a fine and a suspension by the disciplinary committee of AEW. This disciplinary action was a fallout of a backstage altercation involving MJF, his significant other Alicia Atout, and Baker herself on a July 17th episode of Dynamite.
This ban is the official reason for Baker’s conspicuous lack of participation in the most recent Dynamite episode.
Allegedly, Baker employed uncouth language in her communication with Atout, sparking an altercation between her and MJF. Upon conducting an in-depth investigation, AEW decided against levying a suspension on MJF. Their HR arm held the view that his engagement was a protective act towards Atout and hence not meriting any disciplinary repercussions.
In a conversation with Stephanie Chase, Deonna Purrazzo, a fellow AEW wrestler, voiced her perceptions on the Baker, MJF, and Atout incident.
She commented, “Think of the TNA dressing room and AEW’s—very similar—in the sense that it’s like a family environment. The recent incident was merely a singular event which ignited a lot of drama, escalating and taking an unpredictable course. Once the rumor mill starts churning, the reality usually gets distorted. People contribute their bit, effectively magnifying the issue beyond its original scale. As far as my personal experience goes, this incident was a one-off thing for this lock room, which has otherwise always promoted a supportive and encouraging environment—quite high on camaraderie. We recently had a mini-celebration on the occasion of some birthdays, complete with birthday cakes and singing. I strongly believe this locker room is highly underrated for the level of camaraderie it ensues. I won’t comment on the past scenario, as I can only speak for my experience period, but as per that, the locker room certainly merits more appreciation than it currently gets.”
Baker staged her comeback to AEW Dynamite the previous week. She is now slated to challenge Mercedes Mone for the treasured TBS Championship in the forthcoming AEW All In: London 2024 edition, scheduled for later this month.
