On a recent edition of his “The Snake Pit” podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Jake Roberts discussed his experiences traveling with his snake and Jesse Ventura taking care of the reptile.

You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:

On Jesse Ventura: “Jesse is there to take care of Jesse. But he does a good job, man.”

On traveling with the snake: “It was a pain in the a**, man. It was a struggle every day. Every day. I mean, there’s nothing like waking up at, you know, say 6 AM. You’ve got four hours of sleep. And the first thing you gotta do is, you got to put the snake out. You know? It’s not what you want to be doing. That’s the first thing I had to do every morning is put the snake away. Bag him and put him in the trunk. Shut the trunk. Get it all set. Wrap him up with blankets. Oh, yeah, it’s a blast…”

“Every morning, the first thing my eyes opened, I knew what I had to do. Go to the bathroom and get the damn snake. And I’d go there sometimes, he’d be cool. But sometimes, it’d be wrapped around the toilet or wrapped around the sink. He’d break the shower curtain off, that always — I mean, he did that every time. Every time, break the shower curtain. Bring it down.”

On why he had to carry around a python: “Well, python has the size. And it’s not venomous, you know? Later on of course, we went to the king cobra. It was my favorite snake of all time. Light, only weighed about 14 pounds. You know, I can carry him in a Halliburton, a small suitcase. I did that for a while, I’d carry him in that and stick in the overhead. I was doing Snakes on a Plane before they ever thought about doing a movie.”

Traveling with a snake may seem like an unusual experience, but for WWE Hall of Famer Jake Roberts, it was a regular part of his life during his wrestling career. In a recent episode of his podcast “The Snake Pit,” Roberts shared some insights into his experiences traveling with his snake and how Jesse Ventura helped take care of the reptile.

Roberts began by praising Ventura’s ability to take care of himself. He stated, “Jesse is there to take care of Jesse. But he does a good job, man.” This comment suggests that Ventura may not have been actively involved in taking care of the snake, but he was reliable enough to handle his own responsibilities.

However, traveling with a snake was not an easy task for Roberts. He described it as a “pain in the a**” and a struggle every day. Each morning, he had to wake up early, often after only four hours of sleep, to attend to the snake. The first thing he had to do was put the snake away by bagging it and placing it in the trunk of his car. This process involved wrapping the snake in blankets to ensure its safety during transportation.

Roberts also shared some amusing anecdotes about the snake’s mischievous behavior. He mentioned instances where he would find the snake wrapped around the toilet or sink, breaking shower curtains in the process. These incidents added an element of unpredictability to his daily routine and made traveling with the snake even more challenging.

The question arises: why did Roberts have to carry around a python in the first place? He explained that pythons were chosen because of their size and non-venomous nature. They were easier to handle and posed less risk compared to other snake species. Later on, Roberts transitioned to carrying a king cobra, which was his favorite snake. Despite its venomous nature, the king cobra was lightweight and could be carried in a small suitcase, such as a Halliburton. Roberts even humorously mentioned that he was carrying a snake on a plane before the concept was popularized by the movie “Snakes on a Plane.”

Overall, Roberts’ experiences traveling with his snake shed light on the unique challenges and adventures he faced during his wrestling career. It is fascinating to learn about the behind-the-scenes aspects of a wrestler’s life, including their unusual travel companions. Despite the difficulties, Roberts managed to navigate these situations with humor and a sense of adventure, making his snake an integral part of his persona in the wrestling world.
