On life when he was retired from wrestling: “It was gone. Wrestling was done for me. I had to come to terms with that fairly quickly. And then, luckily, acting kind of fell on my lap, and I got to do ‘Haven,’ and one episode turned into 41, and then I realized, ‘Okay. I love this process.’ It’s still a creative. It’s still in the arts. It’s still flexing those muscles and the brain. There’s some different stuff and some stuff that started to atrophy because it’s not live. Once I came to terms with those things, ‘That felt like a good take, but I’m not going to see it for two years [laughs], so I hope it’s as good as I remember it.’”

On when he started watching wrestling again: “But nine years — that’s huge. I can’t say I really thought too much about it. I couldn’t. But I also couldn’t watch it too much. I couldn’t be close to it. And then little by little, that started to change, and I kind of got past the point where I felt like I was pulling off a scab every time I watched.”

Adam Copeland, also known as Edge, recently made his in-ring debut for All Elite Wrestling (AEW) on AEW Dynamite: Title Tuesday. He faced off against Luchasaurus and emerged victorious. In a recent episode of the “Talk Is Jericho” podcast, Copeland opened up about his retirement from wrestling and his mindset during those nine years away from the ring.

During his retirement, Copeland had to come to terms with the fact that wrestling was no longer a part of his life. However, he was fortunate enough to stumble upon acting, which became a new creative outlet for him. He landed a role in the TV show “Haven,” and what was initially meant to be a single episode turned into 41 episodes. Copeland discovered his love for the acting process and found it to be a way to continue flexing his creative muscles.

Although acting provided Copeland with a new passion, he admitted that there were certain aspects of wrestling that he missed. He had to adjust to the fact that acting was not live like wrestling and that he wouldn’t see the final product for a long time. Despite these differences, Copeland found fulfillment in acting and gradually started to distance himself from the wrestling world.

For nine years, Copeland couldn’t watch wrestling or be too involved with it. It was a period of time where he needed to heal and move on from his previous career. However, as time went on, he began to feel less pain when watching wrestling and slowly rekindled his interest in the sport.

Now, with his return to the ring in AEW, Copeland is once again fully immersed in the world of professional wrestling. Fans are excited to see him back in action and witness the impact he will make in AEW.
