‘The Boys’ Star Tomer Capon Calls 90’s Wrestling Fandom His First Acting Class
One of the biggest streaming shows available right now is Amazon’s “The Boys” and one of its stars is recounting his 90s wrestling fandom and talking about how that unknowingly eased him into the world of acting.
Tomer Capon, who plays “Frenchie” on “The Boys,” recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about his first fandom, which happens to be the New Generation era of WWE.
“My first fandom, it’s kind of awkward for me to admit it, but it’s 90’s wrestling, WWF for sure,” he began. “It was such a big hit when I was growing up as a little kid and I can remember myself just drooling in front of the television every week waiting to see these guys, those characters, bringing their performance to the ring.”
He continued, “To think about it, it was like my first-ever acting experience or acting class, if you may, and I still use some of those techniques to this day. We can discuss the quality of the work, but when I was a kid, it was so clear to me that when I would be a grown-up, I’m going to be a professional wrestler.”
Who was the Israeli actor’s favorite WWF superstar growing up? The “Native American’ Tatanka.
“In terms of [my favorite] character, it’s got to be the one and only, “Native American” Tatanka. I don’t know if you know him, but Tatanka was this amazing, amazing performer, colorful and energetic and so charismatic. He had this red hair and this dance when he came into the ring, it was just crazy, this guy, and I mean, he had something even spiritual about his character, so well-built.
“Yeah, I was ecstatic and hypnotic and amazed by this guy and his ways. He was so honest and a true friend and he was one of the good guys, but it didn’t apologize for that. So definitely Tatanka was a big influence for me as a kid.”
Judging by his glowing review of Tatanka’s strong sense of morality, Tomer Capon may have stopped watching WWF by the time Tatanka betrayed Lex Luger at the 1994 SummerSlam event aligning with the dastardly Ted DiBiase.
If you want to check out Amazon’s “The Boys,” all of season 1 is now available on Prime Video and season 2 episodes are rolling out currently.
