In a surprising turn of events, Gable Steveson, the undefeated heavyweight champion, was bested by Wyatt Hendrickson in the NCAA National Championship. The result of the match, held on Saturday, was 5-4 in favor of Hendrickson.
Being the underdog as the second-seeded contender, Hendrickson’s victory over Steveson, who held an impressive 17-0 run in the season, was notable. Notably, Steveson had only suffered defeat twice in his entire NCAA career, both occasions occurring during his freshman year.
Interestingly, Steveson’s defeat came after a successful run of 69 uninterrupted victories.
The magnitude of the victory led to one of the commentators on-site to describe it as the “biggest upset in the history of the NCAA.”, sparking debates on the subject. It is, however, up to the fans to decide.
