In a recent interview with Tokyo Sports, newly crowned IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Tetsuya Naito suggested that Tanahashi should retire to focus on his new executive role. He said,

I think it would be better to concentrate on one or the other. As a wrestler, I’m in a difficult situation right now. I don’t know if I became president because I gave that up, but I don’t know if I can do the job with such a light heart. If you want to make a comeback in the ring, you don’t have to be the president. If you want to be president as hard as you can, why don’t you give up the ring? I started watching wrestling because I admired Keiji Muto, and I became a New Japan Pro-Wrestling wrestler because I admired Hiroshi Tanahashi. If I were to be the opponent for the retirement match of two wrestlers I admired, I think it would be a great destino.”

Hiroshi Tanahashi: The New President of New Japan Pro Wrestling

Hiroshi Tanahashi, the 47-year-old wrestling superstar, has recently been appointed as the new President of New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW). However, his responsibilities don’t end there. Tanahashi is also known as “Tana two-belts” because he currently holds two championship titles.

One of Tanahashi’s current titles is the NJPW World TV Championship. This prestigious title is a testament to his skills and dedication to the sport. Additionally, he is also one-third of the NEVER Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Champions, alongside Kazuchika Okada and Tomohiro Ishii.

Despite his success in the ring, there have been suggestions that Tanahashi should retire from wrestling to focus on his new executive role. Tetsuya Naito, the newly crowned IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, expressed this sentiment in a recent interview with Tokyo Sports. Naito believes that Tanahashi should concentrate on one role or the other, stating, “If you want to make a comeback in the ring, you don’t have to be the president. If you want to be president as hard as you can, why don’t you give up the ring?”

Naito’s comments raise an interesting question about the balance between being an active wrestler and holding an executive position within a wrestling organization. It is undoubtedly a challenging situation for Tanahashi, who must now navigate both roles simultaneously. However, it is important to note that Tanahashi’s passion for wrestling and his admiration for legendary wrestlers like Keiji Muto and himself have driven him to pursue both paths.

As fans, we can only speculate on how Tanahashi will manage his dual responsibilities. Will he continue to excel in the ring while leading NJPW as its President? Or will he eventually choose to retire from wrestling and focus solely on his executive duties? Only time will tell.
