While Dusty Rhodes might not have ascended to the pinnacle of WWE, Teddy Long is of the opinion that it would be a misjudgment on any wrestling promotion’s part to sideline Rhodes from such a position.
In a recent episode of the podcast “Wrestling Time Machine”, Long threw light on why any promoter would be remiss in not considering Dusty as their main contender. He stated,
“Why wouldn’t you want him. Dusty is a genius. I mean he gave me my first job and I started working right there in the Carolinas when he turned it all around. The Four Horsemen all that stuff man. So, why wouldn’t you want a guy with that of knowledge in his age.”
Despite the fact that Rhodes clinched the NWA World Championship, he never truly won the WWE title, a detail that was alluded to when Cody Rhodes returned to WWE in 2022.
Dusty was granted a place in the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007, an honor presented by his sons Cody and Dustin. That very year marked the start of Cody’s WWE journey.
Once his active wrestling career came to a close, Dusty took up a pen for WWE as a scriptwriter, and later governed NXT prior to his death in 2015, when he was 69 years old.
