In a recent episode of the podcast “Everybody’s Got A Pod,” WWE Hall of Famer Ted DiBiase Sr pulled back the curtain on some aspects of his relationship with “Macho Man” Randy Savage along with other topics. Below are some highlights from that episode:
When discussing his association with Randy Savage, DiBiase Sr states, “Randy and I maintained professional camaraderie, but it wasn’t tantamount to a close friendship. We interacted mainly in the locker room and during major events like WrestleMania 4. While there was mutual respect and good rapport between us, it never evolved into a deep personal connection. The conversations usually didn’t involve personal chitchats like ‘How was your day, Randy?’ Additionally, the dynamic was somewhat unique, as his wife was constantly around.”
Intriguingly, DiBiase Sr also touched upon the trust issues Savage had. He reveals that, “Elizabeth and Randy had their private dressing room, and I could understand why. Consider this, your spouse is a part of the show – she is an attractive woman. Shouldn’t it mean that if you loved her enough to marry her, you trust her? But, Savage’s actions suggested something different. It seemed like he trusted Elizabeth but didn’t extend the same trust towards the rest of us wrestlers. I can understand that to an extent, but it’s also crucial to trust your partner in such situations. My wife Melanie, for instance, never wanted to be part of the show. But hypothetically, if she ever was, I would completely trust her. And if anyone disrespected her, she would’ve immediately reported it to me.”
