On a recent episode of Ted DiBiase Sr.’s “Everybody’s Got A Pod” podcast, the WWE Hall of Famer took some time to examine the notorious Montreal Screwjob incident. The incident saw Vince McMahon controversially deprive Bret Hart of the WWF Title in a face-off with Shawn Michaels at the 1997 Survivor Series. This notorious episode occurred when Hart was on the cusp of departing to WCW but resisted losing the title to Michaels at the pay-per-view event.

Highlights from DiBiase’s podcast episode shed light on the situation:

Discussing his rapport with Bret Hart, DiBiase said, “Bret Hart and I share a solid friendship. My father once wrestled for Stu Hart, Bret’s father. The one thing that binds Bret and me is our wrestling lineage. Although some people did it solely for monetary rewards, for us it wasn’t just about the money. It has been an integral part of our lives, and this common thread connects us.”

Addressing Bret’s reluctance to lose the WWE Title in Canada, DiBiase remarked, “In wrestling terms, Bret was leaving the territory, meaning he didn’t actually hold the title. It was just part of the show. My view was, Bret, if the company needs you to perform a job – do it. You’re not in the position to deny it.”
