On a recent episode of the “Everybody’s Got A Pod” podcast, WWE’s Hall of Famer, Ted DiBiase Sr. made revelations about “Macho Man” Randy Savage’s wrestling style preferences. According to DiBiase, Savage was keen on scripting his wrestling matches.
Highlights from the podcast episode are as follows:
Speaking about Randy Savage’s inclination towards scripted matches, DiBiase said, “Randy was tremendously popular. When I first joined Vince, my debut WrestleMania was WrestleMania 4, where the final match pitted me against Savage for the title. This was our first time in the ring together. Needless to say, we thrilled the audience with our performance. What took me by surprise was that Randy was keen on going through the match, from start to finish. Considering that Randy, like me, had a long history in wrestling, I was taken aback. Regardless, I was willing to go along. I agreed, but with the condition that if I come up with an idea to enhance our performance mid-match, he should allow me to suggest it and then we could revert to the original plan. Elizabeth, Randy’s manager, was present during this conversation. Upon hearing my condition, she confirmed Randy’s agreement and we went ahead to deliver an outstanding match.”
DiBiase expressed no concerns over Savage’s approach saying, “The only reason I was comfortable with it was because I knew Randy, having grown up in the wrestling profession like myself. I perceived this as his safety net, sort of like ‘This is how we’re going to do it, so no one can make me look bad’. I reassured him saying, ‘Brother, you can trust me.’ He agreed after a glance at Liz, and we went ahead with our strategy.”
