In the latest episode of his “Everybody’s Got a Pod” podcast, Ted DiBiase Sr., a WWE Hall of Famer, delved into topics surrounding his legendary wrestling career, his father, Iron Mike Dibiase, and other relevant issues.
Here are some stand-out moments from the podcast:
Addressing when he became aware of his parents’ profession, DiBiase Sr. reminisced, “From the very start I knew… I have vivid memories of a wrestling event where I was told, ‘No matter what ensues, stick to your seat. Don’t you dare approach this ring.’ But then, observing my mother being beaten up in a match triggered me to rush down to the ring, from where I was swiftly removed. However, I was in view long enough for my mother to spot me. Boy, did she berate me then — I was reminded sternly to stay put. Despite her instructions, I protested, ‘Mom, you were being beaten up!’ [laughs] Eventually, the reality of the show dawned upon me.”
Discussing whether his father’s wrestling career was a usual dinner table conversation, DiBiase Sr. asserted, “No, that was during the era of staunch kayfabe. All we were instructed was, ‘If you encounter anyone here, feign ignorance.’ It was customary to host parties after dusk, concealing the identities of the guests. The intent was to safeguard the business. That was the norm back then.”
Regarding public reaction on learning about his father’s wrestling career, DiBiase Sr. said, “My typical response was, ‘Regardless of what you think, he’s my father.’ I never let it faze me. Amusingly, no one particularly queried about it. So, my father presumed, ‘The more my son hangs around, the more he’ll decipher on his own. I won’t even need to explain.’ And that’s precisely what occurred. I independently comprehended that the fights were indeed pre-planned.”
