Swerve Strickland recently recognized The New Day, Mark Henry, and MVP as some of the significant influences in his career. The current holder of the AEW World Champion title shared his thoughts during an exclusive interview with Complex, where he spoke about the Black wrestlers who have guided and inspired him throughout his journey.
Highlighting some key points from the discussion:
Regarding The New Day, he said, “Every week, these guys have shown me immense support – an act they weren’t obliged to. But I’ve consistently spoken up about their influence on me, particularly Kofi Kingston’s. My fervent hope is that I have done him honor in my own unique style.”
When asked about Mark Henry and MVP, he noted, “I’ve received calls from Mark Henry. MVP’s warm welcome was memorable. It feels great being a part of this group. I get to converse with these pioneers, having earned my place among them. The question of ‘Do I fit into this conversation?’ has now become a reality. Our interactions are now on a different level; we’ve made it in our respective times.”
