Sting spoke with Shakiel Mahjouri of CBS Sports ahead of his retirement match at AEW Revolution this Sunday.
During the interview, the AEW wrestler discussed the dream match against The Undertaker that never happened in WWE. He said,
“I think if it was done right, it could have been a night, for sure, everyone would remember and never forget. They would be talking about it to this day. But it just was not going to happen. I thought, ‘Well, maybe if I get my foot in the door, we’ll see what happens.’ So I got my foot in the door. We did a WrestleMania with Triple H and then Vince [Vince McMahon] called and said, ‘Hey, I want you to have a world title match with Seth. Would you be willing to do that?’ ‘Yeah, I’d be willing to do that.’ Still, in hopes that somehow I could get in there with Taker.”
He continued, “I had so many ideas over the years. A lot of times, smoke and mirrors aren’t good things. But in our situation, I think with his gimmick and the mystiques of his character and mine, we couldn’t have enough smoke and mirrors. I think it definitely would have been a night that people remembered. Man, I would have loved to have seen that. If I could have had that match alone, I would have been great. I wouldn’t have had to do anything else.”
Sting Reflects on the Dream Match That Never Happened with The Undertaker

As Sting prepares for his retirement match at AEW Revolution this Sunday, he couldn’t help but reflect on what could have been.

He explained, “Well, maybe if I get my foot in the door, we’ll see what happens.” Sting did manage to make his way into WWE and even had a WrestleMania match against Triple H. However, his ultimate goal of facing The Undertaker remained elusive.
Sting revealed that he was willing to take on other challenges in WWE, such as a world title match with Seth Rollins, in the hopes that it would eventually lead to a showdown with The Undertaker. He said, “Yeah, I’d be willing to do that. Still, in hopes that somehow I could get in there with Taker.”
Throughout his career, Sting had numerous ideas for the potential match against The Undertaker. He believed that the mystique and gimmicks of both characters would have created a truly memorable event. Sting stated, “I had so many ideas over the years. A lot of times, smoke and mirrors aren’t good things. But in our situation, I think with his gimmick and the mystiques of his character and mine, we couldn’t have enough smoke and mirrors.”
Sting expressed his disappointment at never getting the chance to face The Undertaker, saying, “I think it definitely would have been a night that people remembered. Man, I would have loved to have seen that. If I could have had that match alone, I would have been great. I wouldn’t have had to do anything else.”
While Sting may never have the opportunity to face The Undertaker in the ring, his legacy as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time remains intact. As he prepares for his retirement match at AEW Revolution, fans will undoubtedly be reminiscing about what could have been if Sting and The Undertaker had crossed paths in the squared circle.
